Chet Atkins Appreciation Society - History

The original Chet Atkins Fan Club was started around 1951 by Margaret Fields. The group functioned from 1951 through 1962. From 1962 until 1983, Chet fanbase around the world continued to grow, but there was no fan club in existence. In 1983, Jim Ferron, along with Mark Pritcher, started a new society with a slightly different focus. Instead of a traditional fan club, they envisioned a society who would honor its hero, but would equally focus on the musical legacy and multi-faceted career of a unique musical genius. They formed the Chet Atkins Appreciation Society for those with a sincere interest and appreciation of Chetís music.

Through 2000, Chet himself participated in the annual conventions, and his presence was warmly appreciated by the members. Since his passing, we continue to preserve his legacy, and encourage young and old alike to keep his music alive and appreciate the many contributions he made to the guitar and the music of America. The current president of CAAS is Dr. Mark Pritcher, who along with wife, Carol Pritcher, and an able staff of dedicated volunteers, keep it running and growing. There are currently over 1000 members. Each summer, the CAAS welcomes over 1200 people from all over the world to its annual convention held at the Sheraton Music City Hotel in Nashville.
